Sunday Roundup

Every Sunday around noon I am going to try and do a roundup in the wide world of sports. Attempting to address the four major sports and college, but definitely the ones that are still playing. In addition, I will be making note of my hometown teams San Jose Sharks, Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, and San Francisco Giants.

MLB

When I was on the radio last week (clip in the previous blog), I had the Phillies, Red Sox, Indians, and Diamondbacks winning. It looks like I will be half right, which isn't terrible, but it is embarrassing. You would think that being a Giants fan, I would be able to predict the National League a lot better than the American League. And at least have a better idea of how the NL West teams did. But before this season when was the last time a NL West team won a playoff round? I think it might have been when my Giants went to the World Series. It has just been that kind of year in the National League.

A quick note on the Cubs, I feel if Lou Pinella left Zambrano in and try to win Game 1, this series might have gone a different way. In the playoffs you need to go one game at a time, and worry about the next one later. Terry Francona did it right in with Beckett in Game 1.

NFL

How much longer until Colts/Patriots? If they did not have to play each other could we have seen two undefeated teams going into the AFC Championship game.

The 49er season took a huge setback with the injury to Alex Smith. Everyone likes to get on Alex for not putting up the numbers. But he made the 49ers offense look somewhat competent, something that Dilfer couldn't do. It would also be nice if Alex actually had a true number one receiver. I finally understand what the Seahawks were saying about Jackson being overrated. The man cannot hold on to the ball.

NHL

The Sharks look good, especially Thornton. It's going to be a fun race between Crosby and Thornton for the Heart Trophy.

NBA

Monta Ellis hopefully will be alright and I like that Nelson named Jackal as a captain.

NCAA Football

Well the Badgers season is over, even if they go 11-1 or whatever, it looks we will be lucky to go to the Capital One Bowl. Ohio State in the National Championship and Michigan to the Rose Bowl. Maybe next year. Stupid defense.
